The end of 2013!

The Sydney Femme Guild committee wishes you a fabulous silly season and all the joy you can handle in 2014.

We would like to say ‘thank you’ for being part of the journey supporting the Guild’s mission to create awareness, understanding and ultimately a celebration of femme within the GLBTQI community.

As a member or supporter of the Guild (that could be a hint to renew or even join for this year below), you are playing an important role in helping us meet the aims of the Guild of providing a voice, space and advocacy for femmes in the Sydney GLBTQI community.

A ‘special thank you’ to all the founding members, contributors and supporters of the Guild over the last 5 years. A considerable amount of femme energy has been spent in developing and operating the Guild over that time. This year was no different and wow, what a year it was! The femme conference Unpacking Femme took Sydney (and the Guild) by storm. So much femme focused passion, enthusiasm, and strength encouraged celebrations, confrontations and challenges; struggles continually explored with big femme love. Amongst the joy there was also hurt, regret, heartbreak and sadness. The committee of the Guild takes the criticisms on the logo and organising very seriously and has responded in a number of ways. A logo competition has commenced and members and allies are invited to review the Guild’s developing organisational policy/procedure documents and strategic plan. Feel free to contact the committee and request copies, we would love your comments. Following the consultation period, the final versions will be presented for ratification by the membership at the 2014 AGM.

This year we have enjoyed the highs and lows forging new femme friendships and networks. We look forward to continuing the mission in 2014 with the release of exciting new competitions, femme celebrations and new opportunities for our members! Here is a run down of our upcoming events and competitions:

Fair Day and Mardi Gras Parade
Come and visit the Sydney Femme Guild stall at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Fair Day 9 February 2014. Meet some new faces, renew your membership, grab some femme info, competition news and chat about upcoming femme-fabulous spaces. We are calling out for volunteers to help on the stall; send us an email if you would like to put your name down for the roster. If you like, please come along to discuss further at the next meeting on 14th January 2014.

Contact the committee if you wish to march in the Parade – we can direct you to our kindreds and allies with floats. The Guild will not have their own float as our femme energies are better directed to events without requiring an extreme-sport walk in heels!!

Femme Conference 2014 (USA – Atlanta or New Orleans)
The bi-annual Femme Conference is gearing up again with the announcement of their femme steering committee. This event is taking place in October 2014 in either Atlanta or New Orleans. The Guild is currently discussing how we can run a competition to select and fund a femme member to attend the conference representing Sydney Femme Guild. Start thinking and develop your femme fabulousness…it might be you and your femme related issue in the US in October. Stay tuned as we report updates throughout 2014. In the meantime, check out the facebook sites for Femme Conference 2014.

All the best for the new year
Love from the Sydney Femme Guild committee
